RIKI RACHTMAN To Return To 'Headbanger's Ball'
June 7, 2003Former MTV's "Headbanger's Ball" VJ Riki Rachtman will be co-hosting the June 14 edition of the resurrected show with HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta. "This is my first time hosting the show since its demise in 1995," Rachtman told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "I never taped a final show so I'm looking at this one as my final show. I have been talking to MTV2 quite a bit about the 'Ball' and offered three suggestions for permanent hosts. I'm happy to say they took my advice. Jamey from HATEBREED will be the host of the 'Headbanger's Ball' this summer. I love that band and Jamey is a great guy."
Rachtman, who has gone on record as saying that he never got a chance to pick the videos that were played during his tenure on the show, has been "doing MY 'BALL' MY WAY on the radio for 18 weeks now. 'The Ball', which is programmed 100% by me, airs [every Saturday] on KLSX 97.1 in Los Angeles at midnight. I don't think its anything like MTV's 'Headbanger's Ball'. We tend to have topics and our guests are a bit more candid. Prior guests have been Rob Halford, Kerry King, ANTHRAX, DEAD KENNEDYS, PENNYWISE, Jason Newsted, MOTÖRHEAD, GRADE 8, Ronnie James Dio, HATEBREED, BIOHAZARD, Phil Anselmo, Glenn Danzig, SLIPKNOT, etc."
In addition to his gig as the host of "The Ball", "from June 23-July 2, I will return to talk radio with 'The Triple R' ['Riki Rachtman Radio' on KLSX 97.1]," Riki said. "I will be filling in for [Douglas] Conway and [Tim] Steckler [Jr.]. It is very ironic because that was the show in which I allegedly beat up the radio hosts, which landed me in jail and unemployed for several years. 'The Triple R' is not a music show, but a talk program that at times does music topics."
"Headbanger's Ball" airs Saturday nights at 10:00pm ET/PT on MTV2.
